Ragged Old Man - Single

by The Carnegies

/

about

The Halloween season is upon us, and the Ragged Old Man is stalking the tides. Plug in your headphones, sit back, close your eyes, and picture a secluded beach in the middle of October. Now picture an undead sea captain, covered in barnacles and the stench of death. Don't be afraid. We all drift beneath the tide...

* This is the first track released with The Carnegies' current lineup, introducing Danny Mars on Rhythm Guitar, and recorded entirely by the band at Dancing Bug Productions, ambient sounds included.

** Music Video (also shot entirely by the band and members of Dancing Bug Productions) to be released early 2019.

*** Song concept by Royce Mars, Lyrics by The Carnegies.

lyrics

Ragged old man, full of sand
Haunts the fish when he can
He is old, he is gray
He has seen better days

Come the fog, we hurry home
Through the waves we hear him moan
He hunts for ones to take to sea
Please dear Lord, don’t let him take me

Can’t you see him over there?
Grinning with his boogey stare
I bet you do, I bet you do
Can’t you see him floating there?
Covered in fog and salty hair
I know you do, I know you do

He sank out here years ago
They say they never found his boat
His sailors drift beneath the tide
Nibbled by fish ever since they died

His skull sits on the ocean floor
Blown to smithereens from the war
His soul remains full of regret
For he can never repay his debts

Can’t you see him over there?
Grinning with his boogey stare
I bet you do, I bet you do
Can’t you see him floating there?
Covered in fog and salty hair
I know you do, I know you do

I need to find a way to stop this curse
Day after day it keeps getting worse
Maybe if I find his waterlogged bones
It’d be enough to stop his wailing moans
I need to find a way to stop this curse
Day after day it keeps getting worse
Maybe if I find his waterlogged bones
It’d be enough to stop his wailing moans

He rises from the sea, layered in kelp
A desperate plea, a cry for help
A rusty anchor on his shoulder
He’ll drag you down to where it’s colder

Before I can make it back to town
A ragged old hand pulls me down
Among the wreck, I’ll join his crew
I never thought he’d take me, too
